There’s something magical about transforming your classroom into a glowing math wonderland. A Glow Day instantly boosts engagement, builds excitement around math practice, and creates the kind of classroom memories students talk about for years to come. Over the years, I’ve found a handful of glow-themed supplies that make setup easier, activities more exciting, and the overall experience way more fun for both students and teachers.

Here are my favorite Glow Day supplies and exactly why they deserve a spot in your classroom transformation! If you are looking for a Glow Day Math Transformation, I have my full day set HERE!

1. Classroom-Friendly Black Lights

No Glow Day is successful without black lights! They are truly the centerpiece of the entire transformation and instantly turn an ordinary classroom into an exciting glow-in-the-dark learning environment.

I always look for classroom-friendly black lights that are easy to set up, lightweight, and safe for indoor classroom use. The moment students walk into a glowing classroom, the excitement level skyrockets.

Why teachers love these black lights:

  • Instantly transforms the classroom atmosphere

  • Makes all neon and white materials stand out

  • Increases student engagement before lessons even begin

  • Creates a memorable learning experience

One of the biggest benefits is that black lights make even simple review activities feel brand new and exciting.

2. Glow Decks of Cards

A simple deck of neon playing cards can become one of the most versatile tools during Glow Day. I love using them for math games, review stations, partner challenges, and quick number practice. I use them specifically in my Glow Day War center, which you can find HERE for free!

Because these neon cards glow under black lights, students are immediately more engaged than they would be with traditional cards. Plus, they’re inexpensive, reusable, and easy to incorporate into almost any math skill. These cards can also be used on a regular day, without any black lights! They are still neon and fun.

Why teachers love them:

  • Perfect for multiplication and division games

  • Easy to use for comparing numbers and fractions

  • Adds movement and excitement to review activities

  • Reusable year after year

Glow cards are one of those supplies that instantly make an activity feel special with very little prep.

3. Neon Dice

Neon dice are another classroom game changer during Glow Day math centers! Whether students are practicing place value, decimals, fractions, multiplication facts, or probability, dice make every activity more interactive. For my Glow Day Transformation, I always use these neon dice in my Expanded and Standard Form Center.

Students love the hands-on element, and the glowing colors add an extra layer of excitement that keeps engagement high. I specifically love this dice option because they are colorful for a normal day as well.

Why they work so well:

  • Encourage active participation

  • Great for partner games and math stations

  • Easy to adapt for different grade levels

  • Perfect for review days before tests

Bonus: They’re easy to spot in dim lighting, which is a huge teacher win during a black-light setup!

4. Neon Streamers

If you want maximum classroom transformation with minimal effort, neon streamers are the answer. They instantly turn an ordinary classroom into a glowing party space. There are several options for neon streamers, however, these neon streamers are the ones I have had the most luck with for our decorations! They are vibrant and stand out under the blacklight.

I love hanging them from ceilings, doorways, bulletin boards, and around small-group tables. Under black lights, they completely change the atmosphere and make students feel like they’ve stepped into a totally different classroom.

Why they’re worth it:

  • Affordable classroom decor

  • Quick setup with big visual impact

  • Makes the room feel immersive and exciting

  • Helps build anticipation before students even begin activities

Sometimes the environment alone is enough to increase student buy-in for math review. Your students will not only be enjoying the environment with a “party” feel, but they will be practicing their math skills the entire time!

5. BIC Highlighters

Brite BIC highlighters are one of my favorite Glow Day “secret weapons”! Many people will argue any highlighter will work under a black light, however, these highlighters have been the best yet! They POP more than I expected! Students LOVE writing with them under black lights, and they’re perfect for glow notes, word searches, solving problems, or highlighting math steps.

These highlighters are especially helpful for upper elementary students who benefit from color coding and visual organization.

Why I always keep them on hand:

  • Glow beautifully bold under black lights

  • Great for math vocabulary and annotations

  • Helps students organize their thinking

  • Makes independent work feel more exciting

Teachers benefit because students stay more engaged and focused during practice activities.

6. Neon Tape

Neon tape is one of the easiest ways to add structure and excitement to your Glow Day setup. I use it to create station pathways, outline centers, label supplies, or even build giant number lines on the floor. This is the specific neon tape I use to create my Tic-Tac-Toe mats for my Addition and Subtraction Glow Center!

It’s functional and decorative, which makes it one of the most practical supplies to have.

Teacher benefits:

  • Helps organize classroom movement

  • Makes stations visually clear

  • Adds instant glow decor

  • Durable and easy to remove afterward (will not come off paper)

It’s amazing how something as simple as neon tape can make your classroom feel transformed.

7. Glow Paint

Glow paint takes classroom decor to the next level. Whether you’re making glow day posters, signs, anchor charts, or station labels, the glowing effect creates a high-energy learning environment students absolutely love. This specific glow paint works the best under a black light and does not require multiple coats.

I especially like using glow paint for motivational math signs around the room, directions, and my learning targets (I Can statements). I write them on black butcher paper on the floor, using the glow paint, for students to work on. This also shows the groups where each center is.

Why it’s a Glow Day favorite:

  • Creates eye-catching visuals

  • Makes directions easier to notice in dim lighting

  • Adds creativity to classroom setup

  • Helps create memorable experiences for students

Glow paint adds that extra “wow factor” that students never forget.

8. White T-Shirts

White t-shirts might sound simple, but they are one of the BEST Glow Day additions. Under black lights, white clothing glows brightly and instantly makes students feel like part of the event. For my glow days, I always purchase these white t-shirts. I usually email parents and ask who has a white shirt and then purchase for those students who don’t.

You can even let students decorate their white shirts with highlighters or glow paint beforehand for an extra layer of excitement.

Why teachers love this idea:

  • Builds classroom community

  • Makes all students feel included in the theme

  • Creates fun photo opportunities

  • Turns the day into a full experience, not just a lesson

It’s a simple detail that makes Glow Day feel truly special and they will have a souvenir to remember it!

Why Glow Day Is Worth the Prep

Glow Day isn’t just about decorations and black lights — it’s about creating memorable learning experiences that make math feel exciting and engaging.

These supplies help transform your classroom into an interactive environment where students are eager to participate, collaborate, and review skills.

The best part? Most of these items are reusable, affordable, and adaptable for multiple subjects and grade levels.

If you’ve been thinking about trying a Glow Day in your upper elementary classroom, this is your sign to go for it! Your students will be talking about it long after the lights come back on!
